EUSTIS, Neb. -- Roger W. Monter, age 81, of Eustis, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Lexington, Nebraska.

Roger was born Nov. 24, 1933, at Arapahoe, Nebraska, to Otto and Minnie (Wendland) Monter. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1951. Roger worked for NSW Construction, running a caterpiller. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Texas and Mississippi for two years and was honorably discharged in 1957.

On Dec. 22, 1957, he married Ruth Toberer at Eustis, Nebraska. Roger and Ruth made their home north of Holbrook, where he worked the family farm until 2008, when they moved to Eustis due to health issues.

Roger enjoyed fishing and bowling. He also liked to play cribbage and four-point pitch. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Eustis; children Steve (Debbie) Monter of Cambridge and Joyce (Lynn) Young of Eustis; five grandchildren, Michael Monter of Cambridge, Sarah (Dave) Marshall of Omaha, Brooke (Joe) Lambert of Omaha, Kaitlyn Young of Lincoln, Shawn Young of Lincoln; five great grandchildren, Mileeya Monter, Alena Marshall, Kiera Marshall, Mccoy Lambert and Lincoln Lambert; brother Bill (Mona) Monter of Elwood; brother-in-law, Kenny Toberer of Eustis; nieces, Jean Shrader, Sharon Carter, Brenda Monter and Lori Buchanan; numerous other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Allan; sister, Donna (Don) Shrader; and nephews, Don Leo Shrader and Gary Monter.

Services will be Friday, April 24, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with Kathy Gundell, PMA officiating. Burial will be at the East Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
