McCOOK, Neb. -- David Lee Davis, 85, of McCook, Nebraska, passed away at Community Hospital of McCook on Friday, April 17, 2015.
He was born in Beaver City, Nebraska, on June 8, 1929, to Glen and Nellie (Graham) Davis. The family moved to McCook, where David graduated from McCook High School in 1947. On Feb. 9, 1948, he was united in marriage to Georgia Clark in Roseburg, Oregon.
David was a polio survivor, contracting polio in the early 1950s. He was placed in an "iron lung" to survive. His parents moved David to Oregon until he was able to live outside the "lung." David and his wife, Georgia, moved back to Nebraska in 1953. David took correspondence courses in accounting. He worked at Degroff's Department Store and later worked for Drake Oil Company as a bookkeeper until he retired in the late 1970s. David was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, where he taught the adult Sunday School class for many years.
David was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Esther; grandson,Trent Davis; and brother, Donald Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia of McCook; daughter, Rebecca and husband, Steve Grint of North Platte, Nebraska; son, Clark and wife, Carmen Davis of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren, Travis Davis; Tiffany and husband Aric Allen; great-grandchildren, Desiree Davis, Sarah Allen, Sydnie Allen, and Sofie Allen; stepsister, Margaret LyDay and sister-in-law, Carol Davis, both of Florence, Oregon.
Funeral services will be at the Grace Baptist Church in McCook, Nebraska, on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Mike Roth officiating. Internment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 8 p.m. Friends may leave online condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in David's name.
