Been there, done that
My daughter doesn't know I'm writing this, so please don't tell her. She would be embarrassed by me sharing this, but what's that's nothing new I guess?
Anyway, this is too good of news not to share. Ya see, we have a new edition to our family. He's tiny and adorable and has been a surprising little blessing for me and Hubby.
We sorta wish he could stay forever, or at least until she gets married, but unfortunately she only gets to keep him for a week. One full week that we will cherish and will hopefully leave a lasting impact on our teenage daughter.
Our 15-year-old has become a temporary mother to a little newborn baby boy. He has a dark head of hair, tiny little hands and feet, and the cutest little chubby cheeks. This may be a good time to point out that, although I wish he was, he is not real, but a fake, computerized baby provided as part of her class at school. Each student gets the baby to take care of for a week and then get graded on how well they do. I don't know how it works, technically, but I totally love the idea, and like I said, wish it was for more than a week because this has been great!
And I don't know how they program these computer babies, but I swear there must be a camera or microphone or something hidden in him, because just like real babies, he knows exactly when to bother her!
Like last night, just as she sat down to dinner and was scooping up her first bite, guess who started to cry? Little Mister, who had been sleeping sound for over an hour, woke up right when she "thought" she was going to eat a hot meal. Ha! Your hot meals are gone for the week, Sister!
And just like real moms, she brought him to the table, rocking and bouncing him around all in attempt to wolf down as much spaghetti as she could before he really lost it. Finally she gave up, didn't finish and in a huff, left to go calm him down. Hubby and I just looked at each other across the table and smiled a satisfying smile.
How amusing to watch her suffer! Her life, so centered around her and everything she wants to do, drastically changed in the matter of a day.
He gets her up a couple times at night and interrupts her when she's trying to do homework or get a shower taken. She even had to wait in the truck before school, because he started crying right when I was dropping her off, and she had to get him calmed down before classes started.
Just witnessing all that brought pure joy to my soul! Welcome to reality, my dear child!
These amazing little dolls are sensitive to everything a baby would be, like stabilizing its head and how hard to pat it's back to get it to burp. I love it! She complains that it takes "like 20 minutes" to feed him and then another 10 to burp him. Geesh! The nerve of that thing! She gets mad that he still fusses after being changed, fed and burped and complains about how heavy it gets after carrying it around. Hmm? No idea what you're talking about? She belly aches about it like this is all new to me and then gets irritated when all I do is laugh.
But I can't help it, this is AWESOME! Way better than a puppy for learning the lessons of life. And as I sit her typing late at night, I can hear him wailing downstairs and her fumbling around trying to console him. I should probably go down and offer my help, but.....I'm tired and have work tomorrow so I think I'll hit the sack. Sorry, honey, you and my (temporary) new grand baby have a good night! Been there, done that!
