CURTIS, Neb. -- Shirley Ann Owens, 70, of Curtis, died Monday (April 14, 2015), at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Nebraska.

She was born Sept. 22, 1944, in Stockville, Nebraska, to Dick T. and Willa Marie (Arent) Owens.

She graduated from UNSA at Curtis, Nebraska, in 1963. Her family lived in several places in the Curtis and Maywood area and ran the Curtis Hotel for several years. After moving to Curtis, she worked at the Senior Citizen Center. She later moved to Senior Living Choices Assisted Living in Curtis and after that, to Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick Owens and Willa Mortimore; stepfather, Ervin Mortimore; grandparents, Tom and Cora Owens and Fredrick and Elizabeth Arent; brother, Harold Owens; stepbrother, Richard Lyle Owens; niece, Bonny Owens and nephew, Richard Gardner.

Survivors include her sister, Patsie and husband, Russell Wood of Cambridge, Nebraska; brother, John and wife, Bernita Owens of Stockville; sister-in-law, Mary Owens of Hill City, South Dakota; uncle, Chuck and wife, Carol Arent of Red Feather, Colorado; aunts, Beverly Johnson of Cozad, Nebraska, and Leona Greenlee of North Platte, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Funeral services are Friday, April 17, 2015, 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis with the Rev. Derrick Brown officiating. Burial is at the Arbor Cemetery in Stockville.

Visitation is Thursday, April 16, 2015, from 1 to to 8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Funeral Home, 317 Center Avenue in Curtis.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Senior Citizens Center, 119 Center Avenue, P.O. Box 162, Curtis, NE 69025.
