LINCOLN, Neb. -- Leora J. Powell, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Private family services to be held at a later date. In honoring her wishes to be cremated there will be no viewing or visitation. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Burkett Powell Memorial University of Nebraska and Gymnastics Fund in care of Richard Powell, 820 Manchester Circle, Lincoln, NE 68528.

Leora J. Powell was born June 11, 1923, in Lodgepole, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Amanda Folkerts. She graduated from Lodgepole High School with the class of 1941.

Leora married Everett Powell on April 15, 1943 in Sidney, Nebraska. She raised her family in Benkelman and McCook Nebraska, later she and Everett moved to Grand Island, Nebraska.

After retiring in Yuma, Arizona, Leora moved to Lincoln when Everett passed away to be closer to family. They were members of the Eagles and Elks Clubs in McCook, Nebraska, and the Moose Lodge in Arizona. Leora enjoyed music, karaoke, playing the piano, and dancing.

Leora is survived by her children, Robert Powell and his wife Patty of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Richard Powell and his wife Vicki, and Nancy Powell, all of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Brian, Jennifer, Joel, Chris, Rachel, Gretchen, Shalla, Mike and Sara; nineteen great grandchildren; and sister, Reva Cameron of Torrington, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Vickie Powell (1964); son, Michael Powell; two grandchildren, Burkett Powell, and Kristie Faherty; three brothers; and two sisters.
