McCOOK, Neb. -- A new "Aces for the Animals" disc golf tournament will help raise funds for the McCook, Nebraska, Humane Society and its animal shelter.

"We're super excited about a new upcoming event to help raise money for our temporarily-homeless furry friends," said shelter director Lorie Prestes.

Tournament directors Mike Jonasen and Ken Keslin scheduled the tournament on Saturday, May 16, on the Kelley Park Disc Golf Course in McCook.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., at the Lower Shelter House in the park, followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The two-round two-person scramble costs $30 per team. The tournament is non-sanctioned; general rules of play will apply.

There will be two rounds of 18 holes: Round one, break for lunch and round two.

Directors plan a bag raffle, cash prizes, flag prizes for every hole and a $100 hole-in-one contest.

Lunch and water will be provided.

Free-will donations will also be accepted. All proceeds are to benefit the McCook Humane Society and help with the care of the temporarily-homeless furry friends.

For more information or to help out with the tournament, contact Mike Jonasen at (308) 340-0370, or Ken Keslin at (308) 340-4323.

  • McCook is said by many to have one of the best disc golf courses in Nebraska. The McCook Humane Society also serves communities outside of McCook.
