BEAVER CITY, Neb. -- Darrel Lee Brown, 87, died Thursday (April 2, 2015), at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska.
He was born Nov. 16, 1927, on the family farm in Furnas County, Nebraska, to Delbert Leroy and Anna Minnie (Straube) Brown.
He graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1944.
He married Eula Marie Holtze on May 23, 1948. In 1965, the family moved to town so their children could attend Beaver City Schools. He was a farmer.
He served on the board of education at Hendley Grade School and was later elected to serve on the Beaver City School Board in 1966, where he served three years. He served on the city countil and was elected mayor from 1981 - 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Anna (Straube) Brown; brother, C. Roland Brown and wife, LaVonne (Query) of Mapleton, Iowa; brother, F. Dean Brown of Wilsonville, Nebraska; brother-in-law, James Holtze and wife, Velma (Nicholson) of Wilsonville, Nebraska; two nephews and one niece.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eula M (Holtze) Brown; children, David and Nancy (Frey) Brown of Beaver City, Randall and Mary (Thomsen) Brown of Beaver City, Brenda (Brown) and Larry Lambert of Grand Island, Nebraska, Robert and Connie (Tegtmeier) Brown of Omaha, Nebraska; and Rebecca Brown of Omaha; sister-in-law, Margaret Brown of Cambridge; 13 grandchildren and and 11 great-grandchildren;
Funeral services were today, Monday, April 6, 2015, at Faith Community Church in Beaver City, Nebraska with the Rev. Daryl Kats officiating. Interment was at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City.
