EDISON, Neb. -- Roy Wallace Christensen, 91, of Edison, Nebraska, died on his birthday on Saturday (March 21, 2015), at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center.

He was born March 21, 1924, to Holger and Emma (Noren) Christensen south of Orleans, Nebraska. He worked for the Harlan County Road Department. He also worked as a soda jerk in Minnesota and in an orchard in the state of Washington. He married Elizabeth Anne Black on Oct. 5, 1950. They lived south of Alma, Nebraska, and then moved southwest of Edison, Nebraska, in 1960. There they farmed and ranched along the Republican River.

He was a member of the Edison Christian Church, served on the church board and was a deacon. He also served on the Edison School Board and Edison Co-op Board and participated in Indiana University's research on the "Genetics of Late Onset Alzheimer Disease." Due to health reasons, he moved to Arapahoe Good Samaritan Center in January 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth "Anne;" sisters, Mildred Wessels, two sisters named Doris (one who died in infancy), and Arlene Kammerer; brothers, Earl, Walter "Raymond," Wayne, Lawrence "Buster," Wesley, Virgil and Darrell; and sisters-in-law, LaVerne, Vera (Irene), June, and Elma Christensen and Gloria Black; brothers-in-law, William Wessels, Lyle Steenis, C. "Wayne" Smith, Marvin Kammerer, Claude Black and George Black and great-granddaughter, Audrey Ann Fish Haberman.

Survivors include children, Melvin Roy and wife, Ruth (Haussermann) Christensen of Arapahoe, Nebraska; Mark Richard and wife, Kathryn (Dake Fish) Christensen of Imperial, Nebraska, Donna Louise and husband, Daniel Yilk of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Janis Anne and husband, Joe Koester of Frisco, Texas; brother, Don and wife, Jean Christensen of Alma, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, June Christensen of Topeka, Kansas, Roma Black of Wahoo, Nebraska, and Barb Black of Minden, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren

Funeral services are Friday, March 27, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Arapahoe Church of Christ with the Rev. Dave Welch officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.

Viewing is Thursday, March 26, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Arapahoe Church of Christ in Arapahoe.
