Kenneth L. Lofton

McCOOK, Neb. -- Kenneth L. Lofton, 79, of McCook, died Friday (March 13, 2015,) at his home south of McCook.

He was born in McCook July 4, 1935, to Burton W. and Gladys Ona (Gwenn) Lofton. They farmed south of McCook until 1942, at which time they moved to Colorado. Ken attended Lakewood Military Academy and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1954.

He was in the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliay of the U.S. Air Force. He played football, tennis and loved to bowl.

He married Melva Chew in 1959. To this union two children were born, Sandra Kay and Jeffrey Scott. In 1974, he married Shirley Mae Kelly.

Kenneth worked for his parents farming, and in their later life, cared for them. He returned to the family farm in 1988 and continued farming. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting fishing, boating, camping and traveling.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his significant other of 27 years, Leana Steinhour of McCook; Sandra and Jeffrey of Colorado; four sons, Ricky Steinhour and Rose Fringer of Ballard, Texas, William and wife, Andrea of Herndon, Virginia, Michael and wife, Penny of Westminster, Colorado, Joseph of Edison, Nebraska; daughter, Rebecca Steinhour of Grand Island, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Services are Friday, March 20, 2015, at 4 p.m. at McCook Baptist Church on North Cherokee. Internment will be later in Colorado.

Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
