Elsie Lucille 'Heinz' Probasco
Jan. 9, 1924 - March 12, 2015
BARTLEY, Neb. -- Elsie Lucille "Heinz" Probasco was born on Jan. 9, 1924, to Andrew and Amelia (Kiel) Heinz at Culbertson, Nebraska, and passed away March 12, 2015, at the Cambridge Manor at the age of 91 years.
Elsie grew up on a farm near Culbertson with her parents, brothers and sisters. She attended a country school during her elementary years and then graduated from Culbertson High School in 1942. After graduation, she worked in McCook, Nebraska.
Elsie was united in marriage to Gail Wesley Probasco on Feb. 26, 1944. They were married in South Carolina when Gail was in the Army. To this union three sons were born: George, Gary, and Dennis. After Gail returned from the service in 1946, they made their home on a farm north of Indianola, Nebraska. After a few years living near the Indianola area, Gail and Elsie moved north of Bartley, where they raised their sons. In 1972, they moved off the farm and bought a house in Bartley.
Elsie was a 60-year plus member of the Bartley United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Elsie worked for 10 years at the Bartley Bank, was a quality control supervisor for 11 years at T.R.W. in McCook, and was head of housekeeping for 10 years at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She volunteered many years to hospice and enjoyed working and caring for those in need.
Elsie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and bake for her family, grandchildren, friends, or anyone who needed a meal. Elsie was famous for her peach and cherry pies, chocolate chip cookies, sour cream raisin bars, runzas, chocolate-covered cherries and a multitude of dishes. The grandchildren always requested grandma's peach pie at the family gatherings and hoped there would be some pie leftover for them to take home.
Preceding Elsie in death were her parents; brothers and sisters; one granddaughter; one niece; two brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-laws.
She is survived by her husband, Gail, and sons, George and his wife, Gayla of Arapahoe, Nebraska, Gary and his wife, Diana of Jefferson, Colorado, Dennis and his wife, Beverly of McCook; six grandchildren, Gregg, Brooke, Todd, Ryan, Erin and Tony; and eight great-grandchildren, Jaeydn, Austin, Taylar, Grace, Tripp, Daniel, Aynslea and Delaney. Elsie leaves many family members and friends to celebrate the memories of her life.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
