March 3, 2015 -March 9, 1941

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Larry Gene Sigwing, 73, took his last step peacefully to our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, while at the Kansas City Hospice House.

On March 9, 1941, Larry and his identical twin, Gary, were born to William and Maxine Sigwing in McCook, Nebraska. Larry has five brothers: Bill, John, Gary, Dan, and Jerry. With six sons, William and Maxine never knew what to expect when they came home from work: a tree house, an underground bunker, or even a huge tree cut down, spreading out in the yard and into the busy street in front of the house. Wonderful memories!

In 1959, Larry and a friend decided to enlist in the armed services, knowing their parents would not approve of their idea because they were too young. That was the case for his friend. However, when the recruiter talked to Larry's parents, his Dad said he would be happy to sign the permission papers. Larry proudly served with the U.S. Air Force from January 1959 to June 1961 in France and Frankfurt Germany.

On Aug. 31, 1963, Larry married Leona Ann Brehm in Culbertson. They lived in Kansas City, Kansas, for 47 years. They were blessed with two daughters, Rebecca Gunzenhauser of Kansas City and Renea and her husband, Jeff Richards of Olathe, Kansas. Larry thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren: L. Michael and Janalyn Gunzenhauser; Jessica and Jordan Richards; and great grandson, Ryan Gunzenhauser.

He successfully owned and operated two liquor stores. His favorite part of the business were the people...always interested, always concerned, and always worked to see a smile.

Larry was full of life, laughs, and tricks. He loved hunting,fishing, working, traveling, and people. He grew to love and appreciate viewing nature and all God's creatures. Larry had a life-long appreciation and respect for all those who served their country. It has always been his desire for a burial at the National Cemetery at Fort Leavenworth where his ashes will be inurned.

Services are Friday, March 6, 9:30 a.m. Porter's Funeral Home, 18th & Minnesota, in Kansas City. Interment is at National Cemetery at Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas.
