Dennis Lucas

Nov. 12, 1951 - Feb. 21, 2015

McCOOK, Neb. -- Dennis Eugene Lucas was born Nov. 12, 1951, at Lamar, Colorado, to Kenneth R. and Tillie G. (Sinka) Lucas. As a young man, he grew up in Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School in 1969. During his high school days, Dennis was very active in 4-H and FFA. After graduating from high school, he moved to Wauneta and attended Panhandle State College in Goodwill, Oklahoma, where he received his bachelor of science degree in meats and nutrition.

On June 7, 1975, Dennis married Charlotte Louise Hilzer at United Methodist Church in Wauneta, where they made their home. To this marriage two children were born, Chad Lucas of Benkelman and Diane Nolan of McCook.

In 1977, Dennis started his career with Maddux Cattle Company, where he worked for 37 years. Throughout the years, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a hard worker. He devoted his life to his job and family. Dennis enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing, playing cards, attending his grandchildren's activities and spending as much time as he could with them. He was very active in kid's wrestling federation, acting as a referee. He was a 4-H leader for Spring Creek 4-H Club. He served on the 4-H Council and was fair board superintendent for 10 years.

Dennis was a very dedicated and hard working person; he tried to never let his health issues get in the way of matters that were important to him.

In February of 2014, Dennis and Charlotte retired and moved to McCook, where they continued to do the things they loved and spend more time with family.

Dennis passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 21, 2015, at his daughter's home in McCook, Nebraska. He was 63 years of age.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; wife, Charlotte; and niece, Christina Doetker; and several aunts and uncles.
