Darleene (Doll) Marjorey

(Beem) Chancellor

April 24, 1924 - Feb. 21, 2015

McCOOK, Neb. -- Darleene (Doll) Marjorey (Beem) Chancellor, age 90 years, passed away surrounded by her family on Feb. 21, 2015, at Highland Park in McCook, where she resided for the last seven years.

Darleene was born south of Colome, South Dakota, on April 24, 1924, to Richard Marion and Almeda Matilda (Shove) Beem, the seventh of 10 children. She attended rural Boyd County schools including one in Anoka, Nebraska.

Following her education, she worked in various homes, assisting with family chores. She also enjoyed working in food and hotel services in Bonesteel, South Dakota. Places Darleene lived included Cambridge, Lincoln and McCook, Nebraska.

On June 27, 1944, she married Theodore "Ted" Mertice Chancellor at Oberlin, Kansas. Together they raised six children. During their years together, they enjoyed farming west of McCook, including a dairy farm. They sold fresh milk to patrons who would come to the farm and pick up gallons of milk and also sold tons of milk to the cheese factory in Oxford, Nebraska. They sold fresh eggs and chickens to customers, and would sell cream and eggs to creameries. Darleene and the family worked hard doing daily farm chores: moving irrigation pipe, working cattle, cutting hay, and stacking bales. Throughout the years, their home was available to many friends, 4-H and FFA clubs, various church groups, the local high school and college FCA, and Bible study groups.

During her entire life, Darleene was a faithful representative of God and the Christian faith. She and her family attended The First Church of God on Norris Avenue in McCook, where she was active in the church for many years. She enjoyed working in the group (WOCOG) Women of the Church of God, teaching Bible school and showing children the way of the Lord. She gave her life to Christ as witnessed by her life. It was always stressed to her family and grandchildren to do the same and was her hope and prayer that her friends would also follow in these steps.

Darleene loved birds of all kinds. Listening to them sing while the sun rose was something she cherished. She often could be found humming and yodeling while enjoying daily farm activities and attending to her flowers, garden and orchard. She canned peaches, apples, tomatoes and other vegetables. Some of the best meals were had in the farm's kitchen often referred to as "Dolly's Diner." She was well-known for her baked cinnamon rolls and fresh baked breads. She enjoyed "coffees" with the pastors and many friends when the "hot rolls" were done. Cooking for the family and her grandchildren was something she enjoyed.

Darleene was always ready for a game of cards or a round of bingo. Her family and friends were very important to her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Richard and Almeda Beem; her husband, Ted Chancellor in 1995; two sons, Raymond and Mertice Chancellor; son-in-law, Frank Hamilton; four sisters, Florence Marie Haney, Blanche Evelyn Baker, Maxine Mable Chambers and Neomia Jean Moody; three brothers, Clarence Franklin, Marion Willis and Harvey Richard Beem; one grand-daughter and two great-grandsons.
