Donald Dale Frick

Feb. 20, 1929 - Feb. 17, 2015

DOWNS, Kan. -- Donald Dale Frick of Downs, Kansas, formerly of McCook, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas. He was 85 years old.

Don "Breezy" Frick was born Feb. 20, 1929, in McCook to Jake and Marie Frick. He attended and graduated from Culbertson High School. On April 8, 1949, he was united in marriage to Twila Collins; that marriage lasted 58 years until her death. To that union two daughters were born.

Don and Twila farmed for many years near Culbertson. In 1970, they left farming and eventually went on to own and operate Breezy's Marina at Red Willow Lake. In 2002, they retired to Downs, Kansas, to be near their family, remaining there until their deaths.

Don was very much involved with the McCook Elks Lodge as a member and past exalted ruler. He loved to work with wood and metal, making many unique items. He also liked to cook, paint, play cards, draw and research history. He was a Husker fan, but most of all he loved to fish and he would tell you just how much. Don loved to tell stories as many of us knew, or argue with you about a great many things. He knew no strangers.

Don leaves behind his daughters, Diane (Smitty) Koetter of Downs, Kansas, and Debra Deininger of Tucson, Arizona; two grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Koetter, Jolene (Heath) Debolt, both of Downs; seven great-grandchildren, who always amazed him: Cory, Shelby, Drake, Emma, O'Rion, Luscious and Shala; and one sister, Betty Brecht of Beatrice, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and a sibling.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
