McCOOK, Neb. -- Walter "Edward" Fahnholz, age 67, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at Community Hospital in McCook.
Edward was born in McCook to Walter J. and Bernice Arlene (Ridpath) Fahnholz on July 2, 1947.
Edward entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 30. 1966. Ed was stationed on the Czechoslovakian Border for a period of time during the Cold War, and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. He was recognized for his valiant efforts with the Army when he received the Southwest Asia Service Medal with the Three Bronze Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Ed was honorably discharged on March 25, 2003.
Following his military retirement, Ed worked at Community Hospital and was also a unit administrator at the local U.S. Army Reserve for over 25 years. He also enjoyed volunteering at SWATS and was considered a father figure to many.
Ed enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, and telling stories. Most importantly, he cherished his time spent with family.
Survivors include his son, Dale Fahnholz and wife, Amy of Kearney; daughters, Debbon Fahnholz of McCook and Danna Krom and husband, Christopher of Ellis, Kansas; sister, Peggy Pearson and husband, George of Sun City West, Arizona; brother, Dale Fahnholz and wife, Cindy of McCook; eight grandchildren, Kinser Vonderfecht, Alec Witt, Laura Witt, Caven Krom, Evan McConnell, Coltan McConnell, Bryan Fahnholz and Jack Fahnholz; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arva Jean Edgerton.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be 11a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Mike Roth officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.
