BEAVER CITY, Neb. --LaVonne Brown, 98, of Mapleton, Iowa, died Sunday (Feb. 1, 2015), at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.
She was born July 13, 1916, in a sod house on a farm south Hendley, Nebraska, to Claude and Gertrude (Dillon) Query. She graduated from high school in 1933.
In July 1939, LaVonne married Roland Brown of Wilsonville, Nebraska. In 1940, they moved to Orleans, Nebraska, where her husband was superintendent of schools for seven years. In 1959, they moved to Mapleton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland; son, Tommy; two brothers, Edward and Berner Query and two sisters, Barbara Wonert and Bernice Morse.
She is survived by her son, Lonnie and wife, Beverly Brown of Decorah, Iowa; sister, Wanda Bingham of Logan, Utah, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, 2 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City with the Rev. Daryl Kats officiating. Interment is at the Hendley Cemetery, Hendley, Nebraska.
There is no visitation.
Memorials may be given in her name to St. John's United Methodist Church, 212 South 7th St., Mapleton, Iowa, in LaVonne's honor.
