Hilma Maxine Flint

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. -- Hilma Maxine Flint, 90, died Monday (Jan. 26, 2015), at Cambridge Manor.

She was born on May 19, 1924, at the family home northwest of Cambridge in Red Willow County, to Samuel A. and Georgia Walkington. Hilma was the youngest of nine children. She attended country school through the eighth grade and then Cambridge High School, where she graduated in 1941.

Hilma moved to Denver in 1941, and worked at an insurance company. She met Lloyd C. Flint and they were married on Oct. 12, 1946. Lloyd was in the U.S. Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, so they made their home in San Diego, California. They later divorced, and Hilma returned to Cambridge to raise her children, Colleen and Arlin.

Hilma was employed at the First National Bank of Cambridge for 10 years and then worked at the Eisenhart Law Office from 1973 to 1989, where she was a legal secretary. She also held the positions of secretary for the city and county attorney and city clerk.

She was a member of the Congregational UCC church for over 50 years and she held a number of positions at the church, including treasurer of the Sunday school and for the church and as church secretary. She was also a member of the Women's Fellowship and a long-time member of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Hilma was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Georgia Walkington; brothers, Paul, Vern, Leon, Wayne, and Sam Jr.; sisters, Shirley (infant) and Hazel Miller; and son-in-law, Mark Braden.

Survivors include her daughter, Colleen Braden of Omaha, Nebraska, and son, Arlin Flint of Grant, Nebraska; sister, Ada Knapp of San Diego, California; and three grandchildren, Greg Braden and wife, Molly of Gretna, Nebraska, Tim Braden of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Kristin Braden of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church UCC, Cambridge, Nebraska, with Bill Weaver officiating. A private family interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge.

Memorials may be given in Hilma's name to the First Congregational Church UCC, Cambridge, Nebraska, or the Tri-Valley Health System, Cambridge, Nebraska.
