GRANT, Neb. -- Lillian Lorena Power was born on July 7, 1917, at Gothenburg, Nebraska. She was the youngest of seven children born to Clyde and Lorena Guhr Bryant. Lillian grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from high school in 1934. After graduation, she attended Kearney State Teacher's College for a year.
Lillian was married to the love of her life, John Power on June 21, 1941, at Phillipsburg, Kansas. They made their home in Gothenburg, McCook, and Sterling, Colorado, before retiring in Imperial. John died in 2003 and Lillian moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living in Grant in 2006 to be closer to her daughter. In 2008, she moved to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home where she went to be the Lord on Dec. 18, 2014. She had reached the age of 97.
Lillian was a devoted wife and mother and lived for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She never worked outside the home while raising her children. In her husband's final years, she took on the role of nurse and never left his side. While living in assisted living and later the nursing home, she always had a smile and a concern for everyone else.
In addition to her husband, Lillian was preceded in death by her five brothers, Harold, Chester, Charles, Whitey and Glenn Bryant and her sister, Marjorie Bryant.
She is survived by three sons, Gary (Lory) Power of McCook, Jon (Martha Jane) Power of Irvine, California, and Joel (Gena) Power of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Marcia (Wendell) Shalla of Grant and Alexis (Clarence) Gillen of McCook; six granddaughters, Michelle Power of McCook, Traci (Chris) Raffaeli of Ogallala, Megan (Isaac) Zfaty of Irvine, California, Bianca Gonzales (companion, Justin Couch) of Lincoln, Selena (Daniel) Mulder of Columbus, Ohio, and Erica (Robert) Rios of McAllen, Texas; six grandsons, Thomas Power of Lincoln, Dylan Power of McCook, Jeremy (Shannon) Bryant of Omaha, Michael (Jo) Shalla of Ogallala, Steven (Annie) Shalla of Sterling, and Lucas (Curtis) Bogetto-Power of Washington, D.C.; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at 10 a.m. (MT) at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastor Nora Mendyk officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. (CT) at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
