Sharon Ruth Marr

McCOOK, Neb. -- Sharon Ruth Marr was born in Big Springs, Nebraska, on Dec. 13, 1928, to Plato and Ruth (Chamberlain) Redfern.

She had two sisters, Arlene and Maxine. She attended elementary and high school in Big Springs. The family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, in her junior year of high school, where she graduated from Lincoln High School. Sharon then attended the University of Nebraska, where she met her future husband, Stanley R. Marr. They married June 25, 1949, and moved to York, Nebraska, following graduation, where their son, Steven, was born. The family then moved to McCook, Nebraska, where their daughter, Tracey, was born.

Sharon was involved with many organizations and was a member of the UMW and PEO, holding various offices over the years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the family cabin on Red Willow Lake. Sharon also enjoyed reading and traveling with Stanley throughout the U.S., as well as abroad to Europe. She always spoke of the trip they enjoyed together in Alaska.

Survivors include son, Steven Marr and wife, Diane, of McCook; daughter, Tracey Ruiz and husband, Joe, of Denton, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Michelle Vavra and husband, Justin of Omaha, Lindsay Webb and husband, Ben of McCook, Chris Ruiz and wife, Andrea of Lincoln and Nick Ruiz and wife, Melissa of Lincoln. She also has four great-grandchildren, Ellison and Hudson Vavra of Omaha, Zoila Ruiz of Lincoln and Asher Webb of McCook; one sister, Maxine Conk of Sarasota, Florida, and two nieces, Cindy Auchter of Sarasota, Florida, and Janis Salerno of Fort Worth, Texas.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Stan Marr; her parents, Plato and Ruth Redfern of Lincoln and sister, Arlene Grannell of Fort Worth, Texas.

Funeral services will be at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, Nebraska, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. with public viewing at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home today until 8 p.m. with the family reception from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Memorial United Methodist Church of McCook, 105 East E St. and the McCook Senior Center, 1312 West 5th St.
