McCOOK, Neb. -- Marilyn Jane Schaffer, long-time resident of McCook, passed away Dec. 28, 2014, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, Colorado.
Marilyn was born on June 20, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as the second child of six born to Faye and Esther Pixley. She graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis with the class of 1947.
She married Ron Schaffer Sr. in February of 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and soon thereafter, they relocated to McCook, where she lived from 1949 to 2011.
During Marilyn's many years of employment, she worked as a special education teacher's assistant at East Ward and McCook High School, while also working within the family business as part owners of the Bison Drive-In and Fox Theater. Her airline experience began in 1979 as a ticket agent for Pioneer Airlines in McCook and later, retiring after being the McCook station manager for GP EXpress.
In 2011, Marilyn moved to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Ron Schaffer Sr., who passed in June of 1992; and her parents, Faye and Esther Pixley.
She is survived by her younger sister, Julie Pixley; her daughter, Teri Beard and husband, Ben; her son, Ronald D. (Bud) Schaffer Jr. and wife, Robyn; grandchildren, Shannon Branting and husband, Rich, Brandon Beard, Lauren Schaffer and great-grandson, Carson Branting.
Memorials may be given in her name to the McCook Humane Society, 100 South St. McCook, NE 69001, or to Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center, 122 Hospital Road, Brush, CO 80723.
Service location will be determined at a later date. Inurnment will take place privately at a later date.
