Warehouse fire ruled accidental
CAMBRIDGE, Neb. -- The State Fire Marshal's Office said that a fire that destroyed the Cambridge Telephone Co.'s warehouse Saturday night was accidental.
No estimate of the dollar amount of damage has been determined.
According to reports, someone heard an explosion and called the Furnas County Sheriff's Office and firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 9:41 p.m.
No one was in the building when the fire broke out.
Firefighter, Doug Jones, 58, who received a head injury while fighting the fire, was taken to a Kearney hospital where he underwent surgery Sunday morning. He is expected to recover.
Arapahoe, Edison, Holbrook, Wilsonville and Bartley provided mutual aid for the Cambridge fire department.
No other buildings were damaged by the fire, but the heat broke a window pane at Bernie Jones Automotive to the south.
Firefighting efforts were complicated because responders didn't know exactly what was in the building, but it included a number of flammable items, such as diesel, gasoline, propane and paint.
