McCOOK, Neb. -- Karla Kay Dyer of McCook passed away at her home on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, with her daughter, Lorie, by her side. She was 70 years old.

Karla was born on March 31, 1944, at Loup City, Nebraska, to parents, Herbert and Bernice (Watts) Bals. She graduated from Loup City High School in 1962. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and graduated with a degree in pathology. Karla worked for Bergen Mercy Hospital as a pathologist until she took early retirement to spend more time with her family.

She married Richard Charles Dyer. They made their home in Omaha until Richard passed away.

Karla was a member of the Omaha Snow Ski Club. She was an avid golfer and received many awards for volunteering her work with special needs children.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Richard Dyer; beloved son, Keith Dyer; and one brother.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorie and husband, Steve Spulak, of McCook; two step-daughters, Cheryl and husband, Jim Vanande, of Punta Gorda, Florida and Victoria and husband, Roger Gadston, of Omaha; five sisters; one brother; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Memorial services will be Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, 10 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with grandson Tim Spulak officiating and son-in-law, Steve Spulak, giving the final prayer. A private family inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service.
