CULBERTSON, Neb. -- Memorial Services for Duane E. Wagner will be on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in McCook, Nebraska, with Elder Eldean Griffith officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Duane Edwin Wagner, 79 years of age, of Culbertson, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska, following a brief battle with acute leukemia.
Duane was born Dec. 8, 1934, on the family farm north of Culbertson, the second of five children born to Arthur and Wanda (Jerome) Wagner. He received his primary education from District No. 6 through the eighth grade and then graduated from Culbertson High School with the class of 1952.
Duane was united in marriage to Floy Dean "Deanie" Hill on Feb. 13, 1957, at the McCook Kingdom Hall and to this union three children were born: Mark, Corey and Danny. The family made their home in Culbertson, where through the years, Duane was employed by Kugler Oil Co., Anderson Ford Motor Company and Metz Baking Company.
Duane was a devoted member for over 50 years, supporting the McCook Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He served as an elder for over 40 years and had the privilege of assisting with baptisms for over 30 years. In his spare time, Duane loved working on his cars, gardening and most of all, spending time with his family.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Wagner; and his sister, Dian Simpson. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 57 years, Deanie Wagner of Culbertson; two sons, Mark Wagner and his wife, Susan of McCook and Danny Wagner and his wife, Andrea of Grand Island, Nebraska; daughter, Corey Wentz and her husband, Brett of Casper, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Kyler, Allison, Noah, Chelsea, Isaac, and Kai; one sister, Phyllis Screen of Oberlin, Kansas; one brother, George Wagner of McCook; sisters-in-law, Dee Wagner of Denver, Colorado and Becky Hill of Lincoln, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, Dave Simpson and his wife, Shirley of Oberlin and Chuck Hill of St. Charles, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial book signing for those unable to attend the memorial service will be at the McCook Kingdom Hall prior to the services from 10:30 a.m. -- noon on Saturday.
A memorial has been established in Duane's honor and kindly suggested to the McCook Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
