OBERLIN, Kan. -- Johnnie L. Richards, 91, died Saturday (Oct. 4, 2014), at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.
He was born June 27, 1923, to Elmer and Edith (Holliday) Richards in Decatur County, Kansas.
He graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1942. He was a Marine in World War II.
He married Betty Christine Ricketts on Feb. 17, 1946, in Oberlin. He farmed and worked for the Soil Conservation Service.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, the American Legion and V. F. W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Edith (Holliday) Richards; daughter, Julie Ann Buturlia; brothers, Allen and George Richards; sister, Betty Robbens and grandson, Grant Richards
Survivors include his wife, Christine Richards of Olathe; children, Michael and wife, Tammi Richards of Belton, Missouri, Dallas and wife, Sharon Richards of Hays, Kansas, and Rick and wife, Shelly Richards of Overland Park, Kansas; son-in-law, Reid Buturlia of Independence, Missouri; brother, Norman Richards of Oberlin, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, 10 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery.
There is no visitation. Memorials may be given in his name to the Olathe Medical Center or ALS, Keith Worthington Chapter.
