Dorothy Marie (Hudnall) Wilson

Jan. 5, 1930 - Sept. 17, 2014,

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Dorothy Marie (Hudnall) Wilson died at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, following a short illness. She was 84 years old.

Dorothy was born on Jan. 5, 1930, in Fairport, Kansas, to Harry E. and Laura M. (Miller) Hudnall. She had an older brother, Harry Jr. (Bud) whom she idolized. Her mother died when Dorothy was only two years old. Her father later married Edra Mae Brown, who was never a step-mother but always a loving mother to Dorothy and Bud. From this union Dorothy was blessed with a brother, Harold, and two sisters, Karen and Connie, whom she cherished and watched over.

Dorothy graduated from Paradise High School in 1948 and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked as a secretary for First Trust Company. She met Robert Christopher Wilson while in Lincoln and they were married there on Feb. 12, 1954. Dorothy always considered Bob her best friend. To this union, two daughters were born; Diane Marie and Robin Sue.

The family moved to McCook in 1960. Dorothy worked as an administrative assistant for several businesses, including Kansas-Nebraska Gas Co., McCook City Library, Southwest Sales and Service, and Mousel Engineering. Her secretarial skills and attention to detail made her a valued employee and she counted her co-workers as dear friends. The family moved to North Platte in 1978 when she was transferred with Mousel Engineering. After retiring, Bob and Dorothy moved back to McCook. Dorothy moved to Lincoln in 1995.

Dorothy was a long-time member of Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook where she was a member of Circle 7 and taught the three-year-old Sunday School class for over 13 years.

Dorothy loved reading, watching Husker football, spoiling her grandchildren, and following city, state, and national politics. She was known for the wonderful letters and notes that she sent to family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wilson; parents, Harry and Laura Hudnall; step-parents, Orval and Edra Otte, and older brother, Harry (Bud) Hudnall.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Philip Lyons of McCook and Robin and Jeff Szwanek of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Laura (Aaron) Plas of York, Nebraska, Andrea (Joshua) Johnson of Lincoln, Christopher Lyons of Seattle, Washington, Julia (Brad) Krebs of Gretna, Nebraska, and Doug (Libby) Szwanek of Lincoln; her great-grandchildren, Cooper, Kennedy, and Adlee Plas of York and Lennon, Porter, and Baby Krebs of Gretna; her brother, Harold (Velda) Hudnall of Great Bend, Kansas; sisters, Karen (Keith) Jakub of Derby, Kansas, and Connie Jahnke of Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy requested there be no funeral service. Her ashes will be interred later in the Luray, Kansas, Cemetery between her mother and her father. The family requests that any memorials be given to the McCook Library Foundation, P.O. Box 602, McCook, NE 69001.
