ATWOOD, Kan. -- Cloyce E. Hand, 92, of Atwood, died Sept. 17, 2014.

He was born to Roy Albert and Edna Maude (Wheatley) Hand on Oct. 4, 1921, in Claudell, Kansas.

He grew up in Smith County and graduated from Kensington High School in 1940. He joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) from 1940 to 1942. He served at Camp Paul, Idaho, and transferred to Camp Chilly in Mackay, Idaho.

He served in the U.S. Navy from November 1942 to November 1948. He served as a Gunner's Mate Second Class (E-6). He was discharged in 1948.

He married Rose Marie Simoneau on June 25, 1950, in Stockton, Kansas.

He was a member of the Atwood American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, The Sacred Heart Church and the VFW of Herndon, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorena Hand and Madeline Lambert and brother, Loren B. Hand.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; children, Steve and wife, Kathi Hand of Steven Point, Wisconson, Patty and husband, Gerald Davis of Aurora, Colorado, Janeen and husband, Chuck Masters of Andover, Kansas, Natalie and husband, Darrell Mickey of McCook, Nebraska, Bill and wife, Dee Hand of Hays, Kansas, and Jerald Hand of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Arloa Ottomen of Lubbock, Texas, and Norma Van Skiver of Aurora, Colorado, nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were today, Sept. 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood.

Burial is at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood with military rites.

Visitation was Sunday, Sept 21, 2014, 4 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Baalmann Mortuary, 109 N. 2nd Street in Atwood.

Memorials may be given to the American Legion or Sacred Heart Church, both of Atwood.

Baalmann Mortuary in Atwood is in charge of arrangements.
