McCOOK, Neb. -- Daryl Alan Bonow, age 75, of McCook, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at his home in McCook.
He was born in Wahoo, Nebraska, on Feb. 28, 1939, to Lawrence and Lucille (Bergren) Bonow. He graduated from Wahoo High School in 1957. He attended Midland Lutheran College and transferred to Peru State College, graduating in 1964 with Bachelor of Science degree in education. Graduating mid-year, Daryl got a job and taught at Table Rock for several years and coached. He later recieved his Master's degree from Kearney State Teachers College.
In 1962, he married Linda Mallonee and to this union three children were born, Trisha, Trent and Taylor. Daryl and the family moved to McCook in 1964, where Daryl taught for 35 years. He was involved with coaching, winning State Cross Country in the late 1970s and a State Track title in 1982. He coached ninth grade football, basketball, head coach cross county, track and swimming. After he retired from teaching in 1999, Daryl worked for the Ron Crowe Specialties as a salesperson to pass the time.
He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, spending time at their activities. He was a past member of the NSEA and the Nebraska Coaches Association. He had a passion for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Huskers.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Richard.
He is survived by his two daughters, Trish and husband, Ron Hansen of Fremont, Nebraska, Taylor and husband, Ron Biehl of Fairbury, Nebraska and son, Trent and wife, Cyndi Bonow of Kemah, Texas; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great grandsons; two brothers, Lawrence "Butch" Bonow of New Jersey and Bruce and wife, Deb Bonow of Morrell, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
