RENTON, Wash. -- Glee D. Wolf was born July 2, 1919, on a wheat farm in Decatur County, Kansas, to Roy L. Lytle and H. Mildred Lytle (Dimmitt). Glee passed away after a short illness in Renton, Washington, on Aug. 14, 2014, at the age of 95. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends and former students.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Glee (Wolf) Osborn and her grandsons, Kevin C. Osborn (Michelle) and Kendall C. Osborn (Lisa). She will be missed by her great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Osborn and Quinn Osborn, step-great-grand-children, Helena McLeod and Greyson McLeod and nephews Richard Lytle and Roy Lytle and their respective families. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Deane Wolf; her parents; her grand-daughter, Kimberly C. Osborn and her brother and sister-in-law, Meredith and Jeanne Lytle and their son, Tom Lytle.

Glee's family moved to her grandfather's homestead near McCook, Nebraska, when she was two years old. After graduating from Red Willow High School in 1936, she worked a year to earn money to attend Kearney State Teachers' College. She received her one-year teaching certificate and began a satisfying and successful 37-year teaching career in the rural schools of Red Willow County (11 years) and McCook School District, (26 years at East Ward Elementary School). Taking night and summer classes, she received her B.A. in education from Kearney State College in 1962. She interrupted her work briefly when she met and married her first husband, William Spencer Brooks, in 1940. When he was drafted in 1941, she followed him to California in the spring of 1942, returning to McCook in 1944 to await the birth of her daughter, Nancy. After the war, she resumed teaching. She was divorced in 1947 and married her second husband, Deane Wolf, in 1948. They were married for 51 years. Glee retired in 1982, and they enjoyed traveling to all states, including Alaska and Hawaii. For several years they were "snow birds" in Arizona.

Active in her McCook church (First Christian) as choir member, deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher, she also was active in the McCook Education Association as a building "rep" and as M.E.A. Secretary (1963-65). She served as president of the local AAUW chapter (1966-70) and was awarded a Life membership in the National Education Association at the time of her retirement. She enjoyed many activities, including the Perry Pals Club (President, 1987-89), water-walking, leading classes at the Y.M.C.A., reading, sewing and gardening.

In August, 2005, Glee moved to the Chateau at Valley Center, near her daughter in Renton, Washington. The community she enjoyed there for nine years became "almost" like home and she made many good friends. Her independent apartment was also near her beloved physician, Dr. Robert L. Thompson. She enjoyed being part of her family's milestone moments, most recently attending Kaitlyn's graduation from the University of Washington in June.

Having struggled financially to complete her own education while working and raising a family, Glee's desire was to help others who wanted the opportunity to go to college. A celebration of Glee's life will be at United Christian Church (15509 116th Ave. S.E., Renton, WA 98058) on Sept. 14, 2014, at 4 p.m. Graveside services will be at a later date at the Danbury, Nebraska, cemetery.
