OBERLIN, Kan. -- Nora H. Bearley, 94, died Friday (Aug. 22, 2014), at Johnson Center Hospice in Centennial, Colorado.

She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Achilles, Kansas, to Aubra John and Hazel (Riblett) Hurst. She grew up in the Achilles area near Decatur County. She graduated from Atwood, Kansas, in 1940 and from Fort Hayes Teachers College.

She married John "Jack" Bearley on Dec. 11, 1945, in Achilles.

She was member of United Methodist Church, Boys Scouts den mother, Order of Easter Star and Phi Alpha Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aubra and Hazel (Riblett) Hurst; husband, John "Jack" Bearley; daughter-in-law, Sharon Bearley; brother, John Hurst; sisters, Euella Erickson and Nellie Hurst and grandson, Aaron Long.

Survivors included children, Robert Bearley of Kensington, Max and wife, Beverly Bearley of Hays, Larry and wife, Judy, Bearley of Oakley, Sandra and husband, Jim Allen of Littleton, Colorado, and Montine and husband, Jerry Alstrom of Oberlin; brothers, Francis and wife, Florine Hurst of Oberlin and Donald and wife, Vi Hurst of Hays; sisters, Pauline Olsen of Scottsdale, Arizona, Florine Vernon of Oberlin, Betty and husband, Duane Beckley of Atwood and Shirley and husband, J. D. Most of Russell; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Services are today, Aug, 25, 2014, 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Kevin Burkhardt officiating. Interment is at the Oberlin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the DCHS John & Nora Bearley Scholarship.
