ARAPAHOE , Neb. -- Rodney (Sonny) Otto Hinz, 77, of Arapahoe, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2014), at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska.
He was born June 12, 1937, at the family farm in Gosper County, Nebraska, to Otto and Jennie (Hormann) Hinz.
He attended Arapahoe High School. He worked for Upward and Sons Filling station, the Arapahoe Coop and the Edison Coop. He also helped with the construction of the Arapahoe Golf Course.
He married Ina Watson on June 19, 1959. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 1975. On Dec. 3, 1978, he married Pearl Allen Menze.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ina; brother, Frank and three sisters, Ida Matthes, Helen Helzer and Evelyn Nichols.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Hinz of Arapahoe; children, Tony and wife, Ginger of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Ed Hinz of Arapahoe; brother-in-law, Dale and wife, Jean Allen of Cambridge, Nebraska; sisters-in-laws, Margaret and husband, Jerry Chipps of Kearney, Nebraska, and Edith Ann Hinz of Arapahoe; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services were today, 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Becky Saddler officiating. Interment followed at the Fairview Cemetery at Cambridge, Nebraska.
Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
