CAMBRIDGE, Neb. -- Margene Holtze of Cambridge passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge on Sunday (Aug. 10, 2014).
She was born in Wilsonville, Nebraska, on Dec. 1, 1945, to James R. and Velma L. (Nicholson) Holtze.
Margene graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1964. She attended and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business education from Kearney State in 1968. She later earned her master's degree in education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Margene taught 36 years in the Cambridge Public Schools. She was sponsor of the FBLA, yearbook and business classes. As a professional educator, she served as president of the Nebraska State Business Education Association (NBSEA) and president of Delta Pi Epsilon and served six years on the FBLA Board of Directors. She was recognized as Outstanding Business Teacher and received the Service Award from the NBSEA. Nebraska FBLA also recognized her as an FBLA Advisor of the Year.
Margene was a member of the United Wilsonville Baptist Christian Church where she served as organist and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was currently serving as representative on the Nebraska Disciple Women's Cabinet. Margene was also a member of the Alpha Omicron of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International (ESA). She has held offices on the international level and was currently recording secretary of the Midwest Area Regional Council, also serving many offices on the local and state councils, including state president. Margene was currently serving as the treasurer of the Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa, where she had also served as chapter president.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rodger Holtze and brother-in-law, Douglas Simmons.
Margene is survived by her two brothers, Jim and wife, Becky and Kenneth and wife, Carla, all of Wilsonville; one sister, Ivalene Simmons of Holdrege; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at United Baptist Christian Church in Wilsonville on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be in the Wilsonville Cemetery. Scholarships are being established by the family in Margene's name to ESA Endowment Scholarship and to a student of Cambridge FBLA. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com.
