CULBERTSON, Neb. -- Herman C. Weidner, age 96, died at his home southwest of Culbertson on Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
He was born to Carl F. and Dorothea (Kahle) Weidner on March 13, 1918, south of Culbertson in Hitchcock County. Herman graduated from the eighth grade in 1932 from School District No. 62.
Herman was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Culbertson. On April 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Annice Kattau at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kramer, Nebraska. The couple lived in Hitchcock County on the same farmstead all their married life of 65 years. He was active in his church, serving as an elder, on the Finance Committee, teaching Sunday School and belonging to the Walther League. He was also active in his community serving on the Co-op Board, Fairplaines Rural Telephone and District No. 41 School Board.
Although Herman was involved in a farm accident in 1952, causing the loss of his right arm, it never slowed him down. He enjoyed welding and making devices to keep farming and run machinery. He had a strong determination to keep farming. He ran the combine for wheat harvest until he was 90.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and wife, Blanche, Frank, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Ketelsen.
Herman is survived by his wife, Annice; son, Ronald of Culbertson and daughter, Marilyn of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Dorothy Ketelsen of Highland, Illinois; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at St. John's Lutheran Church of Culbertson on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, 2 p.m. with Pastor Bradley Rick officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.
