McCOOK, Neb. -- Gary Clark Mills was born Sept. 19, 1938, to Clark and Emma Amen Mills at Gresham, Oregon, and died peacefully at his home July 24, 2014, in McCook.

Gary moved to Culbertson, Nebraska, in 1947 with his family. Gary attended Culbertson school before joining the Marines. He served from Jan. 12, 1956, to Jan. 11, 1962, and was honorably discharged.

On Oct. 24, 1963, he married Joan Baumfalk Lytle at the St John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson and became the instant father to Joan's three sons, Rod, Steve and Tim. Gary graduated in 1964 from Milford Tech School and was an expert welder. He worked for many years as a millwright worker for Amen, Doak and Hixon Construction and was currently working at Orscheln's.

Gary loved flying, having his private pilot's license, gun clubs and being with his family, including his grandkids and great-grandson, Easton.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Clark and Emma Mills; parents in-law, Harry and Hannah Hein; brothers-in-law, Donnie Moore, Edward Trupp, Larry Wickham and Kenneth Baumfalk.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Rod (Sandy) Lytle, Steve (Diane) Lytle and Tim (Michelle) Lytle, all of McCook; special niece, Jeanie Mintzmyer of Mexico; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Lytle, Chris (Mandi) Lytle, Josh Lytle, Tanner (Audrey) Lytle, Tenielle Lytle( fiancé ,Barthelemy Yelkouni), Krista (Matt) Gregg and one great-grandson, Easton Lytle; sisters, JoAnn Wickham of Mariposa, California, Elaine Moore of Trenton, Nebraska; brothers in-law, Eugene (Cleta) Baumfalk, Gerald (Barb) Hein and Bob (Jan) Hein, all of McCook, and sister-in-law, Jan Kraus of Ogallala, Nebraska; nieces, nephews and host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, 2014, 2:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in McCook with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery in Culbertson.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com. Memorials may be left in Gary's name. Military Honors will be held graveside by the American Legion of Culbertson.
