KEARNEY, Neb. -- Ellis E. Fisher, 81, formerly of Oxford, Nebraska, died Monday (July 21, 2014), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born April 25, 1933, at Heltonville, Indiana, to Curtis and Benza (Glassco) Fisher.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1953 and served through April of 1955. After being honorably discharged, he came back to Helmsburg, Indiana, and worked at the saw mill. He married June Dalton on June 4, 1955, at Bedford, Indiana. In 1976, they moved to Almena, Kansas and later to Oxford, Nebraska, where he worked as a mechanic for Nu-Vu Chevrolet dealership. After Nu-Vu closed, he worked at Brooks Ford in Oxford. He retired in 1995 and he and his wife moved to Kearney to be closer to family.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; and two sisters, Kay Fletcher and Eva Miller.

He is survived by his wife, June Fisher of Kearney; children, David Fisher of Kearney, Randy Fisher of Columbus, Indiana, Mary Kay Shearer and Bonnie Fisher of Kearney; brothers, James and wife, Glenda Fisher of Heltonville, Indiana and Garry and wife, Linda Fisher of Campbellsburg, Indiana; brother-in-law, Rex Miller of Columbus, Indiana; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Thursday, July 24, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Beaver City, Nebraska, with the Rev. Keith Theobald officiating.

There is no viewing or visitation.
