HASTINGS, Neb. -- Hastings resident Joan (Wilcox) Peterson, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

There will be no services and private burial will be held at a later date at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in McCook, Nebraska. There will be no viewing or visitation. Joan was born Sept. 21, 1933, in McCook, Nebraska, to John S. and Lenora A. (Hesterwerth) Wilcox. She was one of five children. She grew up and helped on the family farm in Red Willow County. Joan attended and graduated from Omaha Catholic Girls' School. Once Joan attained adult age, she lived in various parts of the United States, including Alaska and Arizona. She held a variety of types of jobs during her work years. She most recently lived in Hastings at Perkins, Good Samaritan Society. Joan was full of life and always "liked having a good time." She particularly enjoyed dancing, watching TV, and playing cards. Joan had many friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bernadine Harris; and one brother, Irvin Wilcox.

Survivors include sisters, Irene Hamilton of Rockford, Illinois, and Jean Terwilliger of Rapid City, South Dakota; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
