McCOOK, Neb. -- Opal R. Pearson passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, in McCook at the age of 94.

Opal was born to Johnny and Olive Berryman on May 12, 1920. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1938. In 1941, she married Kermit Pearson of Gothenburg and they had five children together. The family resided and farmed north of Gothenburg and later north of Cozad until 1970. Opal was a faithful, lifelong member of Parkview Methodist Church as well as a member of Eastern Star, the Shriners Auxiliary, and several local clubs.

As a long time member of the Cozad Modern Homemakers Club she carried on the task of giving birthday cards to nursing home residents in both Cozad Nursing Home and Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook until her death. She also worked for 16 years in the Cozad Schools cafeteria and was an avid reader.

Opal was preceded in death by Kermit, her husband of almost 60 years; her sister, Arlene Christensen of Long Beach, California; sister, Elsye McNulty of Cozad; her grandson, Jeff Pearson of North Platte, and two infant brothers.

Opal is survived by her two sisters, Lavon Pape of Gothenburg and Elaine Pirrone on Long Beach, California; five children, Gary Pearson of North Platte; Steven Pearson of Columbia, Missouri; Kathy Pearson of San Anselmo, California; Karen Fahrenbruch of McCook and Kay Hall of Kittridge, Colorado; as well as 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Eastern Star Masonic Home for Children, Cozad Grand Generation Center of Cozad or the donor's choice.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8.
