BEAVER CITY, Neb. -- Florine May Harper-Theobald, 92, died Friday (July 11, 2014), at Beaver City Manor in Beaver City.
She was born on April 25, 1922, at Beaver City to Leo and Mabel (Thompson) Harper.
She graduated from Beaver City HighSchool in 1939. After graduation, she taught in rural schools for three years. On Aug. 31, 1942, she married Robert S. Theobald of Beaver City. She worked at North American Aviation in Kansas City, Missouri, for three years while her husband was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and later, at the county clerk's office in Beaver City. She returned to teaching at Hendley and Beaver City Schools and retired in 1984 after 23 years.
Following the death of her husband, she worked as an English teacher with Educational Services Exchange with China and taught in Universities in Chengdu, Wuhan, Shanghai, Tianjian, China for five years. She was an ambassador with the "Friendship Force" and lived with families in Europe.
She was a member of the Beaver City Teacher's Association, the Furnas County Teacher's Association and the Nebraska Evaluation Committee, which evaluated Nebraska schools for state accredidation. She was Red Cross volunteer, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beaver City, where she was an elder, the VFW, Order of Eastern Star, and Girl Scout Leader for 10 years. She was chairman of the Highway Litter program for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Robert Harper Theobald; brother, James Harper and sister, Doris Davis.
Survivors include her children, Patty and husband, Ben Stump of Grand Island, Nebraska,Barbara Johnson of Palmetto, Florida; sisters-in-law, Julie Harper and Carol Theobald of Beaver City; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Beaver City with Revs. Ivan and Joyce Dean and Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.
Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to the services at the church.
