McCOOK, Neb. -- Lonnie Eldon Casper, age 80, died at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook on June 25, 2014.
He was born in McCook on May 31, 1934, to Lonnie Ernest and Gladys (Bollman) Casper. Lonnie attended and graduated from McCook High School. He moved to Madison, North Carolina, to work in a restaurant with his aunt and uncle, Sylvia and Johnny Moore.
On April 1, 1956, he married Rosemary Nelson and to this union three daughters were born: Candice, Pam and Shea. Lonnie joined the United States Navy in January 1955 and was honorably discharged in February of 1959. The couple moved to California, where he was stationed. Lonnie and the family moved back to Stoneville, North Carolina. He was an engineer for the Norfolk/Southern Railroad for 47 years.
Lonnie enjoyed riding his Gold Wing-motorcycle. He was instrumental in starting the Gold Wing Club in Eden, North Carolina, where they just celebrated 25 years of the club. He also enjoyed dancing music and woodworking. He worked for the Gaither family singers and sang with them in one performance.
He was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook. Upon retirement, Lonnie moved back to Nebraska. He met a lady at a dance, they began dating and on Sept.10, 2005, he married Thelma Heck in Wray, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Pat and Beverly.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Thelma of McCook; three daughters, Candice and husband, Steve Voss and Pam Snow of Eden, North Carolina, and Shea and husband, Steve Hill of Stoneville, North Carolina: two grandchildren, Adam and Cody Snow; three great-grandchildren, Braeden, Annadel and Aubrey: step-children, Charles and Maria of Versailles. Missouri, Allen Freeman and Rosa Linda of Thorton, Colorado, and Sharon and Joe Marchitti of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Memorial services will be at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook on Sunday, July 6 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brad Bauer. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be left in Lonnie's name to Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
