BARTLEY, Neb. -- Roberta J. "Bert" Brooks, died Sunday (June 29, 2014), at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge, Nebraska..
She was born on May 23, 1935, in Indianola, Nebraska, to Henry and Ethel M. (Junker) Schamel. She graduated from Indianola High school in 1953. On Oct. 3, 1954, she married Gerald "Geb" Brooks.
Bert worked as the school cook and later as a CNA at the Cambridge Manor.
She was a member of the Kemper United Methodist Church of Bartley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband "Geb"; infant daughter, Denise Rae; sisters, Helen and husband, Walt Walz, Elsie and husband, Ewald Werschke, Iona and husband, Gaylord Harned and Esther Sedlacek; sister-in-law, Joann Schamel and brother-in-law, Orville Stewart.
Survivors include daughters, Myra "Mick" and husband, Scott Minnick of Bartley; Patti Brooks and Dave Hamling of Columbus, Nebraska, Lisa and husband, Doug Gartner of Lebanon, Tennessee, Mike and wife, Kim Brooks and Mark and wife, Darlene Brooks, both of Bartley; sister, Ruth Stewart of McCook, Nebraska; two brothers, Donald "Doc" Schamel and her twin, Robert "Bob" Schamel and wife, Doris, of Stockton, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
Graveside services were Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Bartley Cemetery with Bill Weaver officiating.
Memorials may be left in her name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, who was in charge of arrangements.
