Pickup trucks collide Wednesday
City of McCook, Nebraska, and Red Willow Western emergency personnel respond to a two-vehicle accident at 4:45 p.m., Wednesday, two miles south of McCook on Highway 83 at County Road No. 713. Both pickups were totaled and three victims were transported to Community Hospital of McCook. Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Jeff Van Stelton reports that Melissa Ebert, 41, of McCook was driving a 2011 Chevy Silverado traveling on Highway 83 when a 1998 Dodge Ram driven by Spencer G. Leitner, 16, also of McCook, entered the highway from Road 713 without yielding to Ebert's pickup. The Leitner pickup ended up in the east ditch; the Ebert pickup entered the front yard and hedge of the Gerald Geihsler home. Van Stelton said that Ebert, Leitner and his passenger, Matthew McBride, were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Van Stelton reports that seat belts were in use in both vehicle. Van Stelton said he appreciated the assistance of the McCook and rural fire departments, the Red Willow County Sheriff's Department and the McCook hospital emergency room staff.
