CAMBRIDGE, Neb. -- Elva S. Stone, age 94, died at the Cambridge Manor on Friday, June 6, 2014.
She was born in Arapahoe, Nebraska, on April 28, 1920, to Charles and Bertha (Dyer) Rosecrans. Elva attended and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1938.
On June 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Otis Kenneth Skiles. He preceded her in death in November 1970. The couple farmed near Wilsonville. They moved to Oregon then back to Indianola. After they moved back to Nebraska, Elva worked for a while at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. On June 2, 1990, she married Lloyd Stone and the couple made their home in Bartley. Lloyd preceded her in death in 1992.
Elva enjoyed gardening and when she was on the farm, her chickens.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Kenneth and Lloyd; two daughters, Mary Allison and Barb Hobbs; two grandchildren, Norman Skiles and Melinda Skiles and brother, Charles Rosecrans.
Elva is survived by her daughter, Beverly and husband, Dyle Burton of Bartley: two sons, Kenneth and wife, Donna Skiles of Henning, Minnesota, and Glen and wife, Dianne Skiles of Columbus, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sandy Rosecrans of Martel, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Michael Freitag officiating. Inurnment will be in the Indianola Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Memorials may be left in her name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.
