LAKE CITY, Iowa -- Marilyn Corey, 77, died Wednesday (May 28, 2014), at her home.

She was born Aug. 16, 1936, at McCook, Nebraska, to Lyle and Bertha (Campbell) Modrell. She graduated from McCook Community College and then Colorado State College in 1958. On July 21, 1963, she married Clayton Corey at McCook and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage. She worked as a teacher in the Colorado Springs, Rockwell City, Lake City, and Southern Cal School Districts before retiring in 1997 and staying home to babysit her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Lake City Union Church, the Deborah Circle, taught Bible School, Sunday School and Youth Group at the Union Church in Lake City. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a woman's educational organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Modrell.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton; children, Melanie and husband, Ron Ludwig, Stephanie and husband, Mike Patterson, Perry and wife, Stacy Corey, all of Lake City, and Tiffanie and husband, Ron Saak of Grundy Center; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at the Lake City Union Church in Lake City with the Rev. Beth Harbaugh officiating and burial in the Lake City Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.
