CHADRON, Neb. -- Wayne Allen Farrar, 87, of Chadron, died May 23, 2014, at Prairie Pines in Chadron.

He was born June 2, 1926, at Wellfleet, Nebraska, to Harold Allen Farrar and Eva Alice (Limback) Farrar. He graduated from Maywood High School and attended a semester of college in Kansas.

He entered the U.S. Army on June 6, 1945, at Fort Logan, Colorado. He served with the 57th Medical Base Depot Company and was stationed in Leghorn, Italy. He was discharged on Feb. 3, 1947, at Sheridan, Illinois.

On June 2, 1950, he married Barbara Hope Hammond of Moorefield at the Maywood Methodist Church. They lived at Maywood, Mullen and Curtis. He farmed, ranched and worked at the Curtis Coop and the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture (from which he retired). They also owned the cafe in Curtis and Hi-Line Motel in Curtis. Barb preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1991.

He married Delores Gasseling Cotant Aug. 14, 1993, at the Methodist Church in Curtis.

He was preceded in death by wife, Barbara; sisters, Margery (Lester) Barger, Virginia (Wilbert) Ericksen and Dorothy Templeton; brothers-in-law, Richard (Eleanor) Hammond, Gail Hammond.

He is survived by his wife, Delores of Hemingford; children; Roger (Jolene) Farrar of Kearney, Sue (Ken) Knolles of North Platte, Harold (Melody) Farrar of Kimball, and Michelle (Kris) Wilson of McCook, Sarah (Corey) Jenkins of Valentine, Marc (Kyla) Cotant and Steve (Laurie) Cotant; brother, Keith (Barb) Farrar of Colorado; sister-in-law, Nell Hammond of McCook; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were May 27, 2014 at Chadron Berean Church with graveslde services and burial at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell on Wednesday, May 28. Memorials may be given to the Berean Church at Chadron or to the Honor Flight of your choice

Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron is in charge of arrangments.
