CAMBRIDGE, Neb. -- Pauline Emma Rogers, 95, formerly of Hastings, Nebraska, died Friday (May 23, 2014), at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

She and her twin sister were born Sept. 19, 1918, in Riverton, Nebraska, to Lawrence and Verna (Tupper) Shineman. She graduated from the Riverton High School and taught country school for two years. On June 18, 1939, she married Leonard B. Rogers from Stapleton, Nebraska, and they moved to the Sandhills. After the flood in Cambridge in 1948, they cleaned basements, carried mail and ran a trailer court. She was active in helping to found the Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and provided housing for the minister. She and her husband farmed in the Cambridge area and moved to Hastings where they eventually retired.

She was a member of the Berean Bible Church, Hastings and was in the Joy Club. She also volunteered at Gold Beck Towers, the Senior Center and Villa Grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Verna Shineman; husband, Leonard Rogers; brothers, Orival and Virgil Shineman; sister, Charlotte Heinrick and granddaughter, JoElle Rogers.

She is survived by her twin sister, Paula Plank of Crescent City, California, three children, Loren Rogers and wife, Mary of Pierce, Nebraska, Charlene and husband, Allen Hutton of Brighton Colorado, Carol and husband, Gerald Cotton of Cambridge; eight grandchildren and special, friend Frank Sandoe.

Graveside service are today, May 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Parkview Cemetary, Hastings, with the Rev. Paul Knott officiating. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel in Hastings. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
