MCCOOK, Neb. -- Daniel Ronny Petty passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, at his home in rural McCook. He was 59 years old.

Daniel was born on Sept. 19, 1954, at Mauston, Wisconsin, to parents William E. and Janice (St. Clair) Petty. He attended school in Mauston and later received his GED.

In August of 1973, Daniel entered the U.S. Navy and served in Rota, Spain, during the Viet Nam War as a submarine mechanic. He was also a drummer for the Naval Band. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 4, 1975.

On March 25, 1977, he was united in marriage to Debra Ann Maris in Omaha. To this union three children were born. They eventually moved back to the McCook community. Daniel was a self-employed mechanic. He also worked for Primerica Financial Services for a couple of years. He enjoyed helping people make plans for their future. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and the Gideons. He loved restoring cars, organic gardening including his grapevines of which he liked to make wine, spending time with his mustangs, and traveling most recently to Egypt. His most enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a nephew, Brent Petty.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Deb Petty of McCook; children, Julie and husband, Donnie Craig, of Omaha, Doug Petty and wife, Angel, of McCook, Dawn and husband, David Salyer, of Kearney, and Dustin Petty and wife, Melissa, of San Diego, California; parents, William and Janice Petty of Friendship, Wisconsin; sisters, Elizabeth Petty of Eagan, Minnesota, Lois Petty of McCook, and Rachel and husband, Roger Bleskachek, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; brothers, David Petty and wife, Bonnie, of Lexington, Tennessee, and Everett Petty and wife, Marian, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Memorial services will be Friday, May 23, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Evangelical Free Church in McCook with Pastor Bruce Lester officiating.
