HAYS, Kan. -- Gladys L. Long, 95, died Tuesday (May 6, 2014), at Via Christi village in Hays.
She was born April 9, 1919, to William and Ora (Regester) Gilleece in New Almelo Township in Norton County, Kansas. She attended St. Joseph grade school.
She married Marion F. Long on Aug. 2, 1939 in New Almelo. She was a homemaker in addition to working as a postmaster for 15 years and at a local grocery store.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality in New Almelo, Eagles Auxiliary in Norton and Senior Center in Lenora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marion F. Long; infant son, Lawrence; daughter, Imogene McDougal; and two sisters, Amanda Hickert and Millie Hahn.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth and wife, Dorothy of Nixa, Missouri, Roger and wife, JoAnn of New Almelo, Joseph and wife, Rose Ann of Climax Springs, Missouri, Tom and wife, Jan of Woodruff, Kansas, Floyd and wife, Karen, of Kimball, Nebraska, Frank and wife, Leticia of St. Elizabeth, Missouri, Fred and wife, Mardi of Independence, Kansas, Gary and wife, Carolyn of Hill City and Lenord and wife, Joan of Logan; daughters, Rita and husband, Bill Barker of Hays, Rhonda and husband, Dennis Johnson of Lindsborg, Irene Schieferecke of McPherson, Geraldine and husband, Mark Baalmann of Grinnell; son-in-law, Doyle McDougal of North Platte, Nebraska; 36 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday, May 10, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo with the Rev. Vincent Thu Laing officiating. Interment is at St. Joseph Cemetery at New Almelo.
Visitation is Friday, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. until service time, at St. Joseph Parish Hall. Vigil service is Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Hall in New Almelo.
Memorials may be given to Hospice at Hays Medical Center or for masses.
