Henry E. 'Hank' Schelling

EDISON, Nebraska -- Henry E. "Hank" Schelling, 75, of Edison, died Monday (April 14, 2014), at his home.

He was born on Jan. 29, 1939, at Beaver City to Henry and Bessie (McDaniels) Schelling.

He attended Oxford High School in Oxford, Nebraska, and graduated in 1958. After high school, he would work construction in Illinois. He married Peggy Burton on Nov. 10, 1960, at United Methodist Church in McCook, Nebraska. They moved to Edison while he worked for Frenchman Irrigation District. In 1968, he bought the filling station in Edison, which was called "Hank's Conoco." He also ran a fuel truck for a number of years for the Coops in Edison, Arapahoe and Holdrege. He retired in 2002 and worked part-time for Murdoch Farms of Oxford, Nebraska.

He was a member of Spirit of the Rock Church in Oxford, Edison City Council, Edison School Board, Edison Volunteer Fire Department and the Edison Community Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Perry Schelling.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Schelling of Edison; children, Michael Schelling and fiancé, Tammy of Kearney, Nebraska, Ginger and husband, Tony Hinz of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Rusty and wife, Katie Schelling of Kearney; sister, Clarca and husband, Ed Fitzgerald of Edison; sister-in-law, Ila Mae Schelling of Oxford; brothers-in-law, Dick, Bob and Corky Burton of McCook, and Ray and wife, Cindy Burton of Ulysses, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Pat and husband, Bob Bellamy of Loveland, Colorado, and Pam and husband, Larry Corder of Kearney; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are Friday, April 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Spirit of the Rock Church in Oxford with the Revs. Bobbie Wilson, Ken Breinig and George Probasco officiating. Inurnment will be at the Edison Cemetery in Edison, Nebraska.

There is no visitation.
