McCOOK, Nebraska -- Dwight A. Wood age 58 died at Community Hospital in McCook on April 2, 2014.

He was born in Norton, Kansas, on Nov. 7, 1955, to Leon and Veda (Van Gundy) Wood. He grew up on the family farm near Norcatur, helping his dad.

Dwight graduated from high school at Oberlin at the Decatur County High School in 1975. Dwight worked at the K-State Experiment station at Colby, Kansas. He then moved to Kearney, Nebraska. It was there he married Tammy Pruitt and to this union twin daughters were born: Chelsey and Taryn.

Dwight grew up loving music. He played the guitar since his childhood and also the mandolin and some keyboard. He played in several bands after graduation. He loved to sing and had even produced and recorded several CDs of his own songs. He earned a degree in audio technology from Northeastern Community College at Norfolk, Nebraska, in the 1990s.

Dwight has had many health problems since he was 14. This kept him from pursuing his audio career. Dwight was given a kidney by his brother David in 1993, that kidney failed in 2003. At that time he had to go on hemodialysis for the last 10 ½ years.

In 1999, Dwight met Teresa Reves and they married in McCook on Nov. 25, 2004. Teresa has been his primary caregiver, helping him with his dialysis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon and a brother, Merrit.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Teresa of McCook; his daughters, Chelsey and Taryn, both of Chicago, Illinois; two stepchildren, Mary (Jeff) Zimmerman of West Moreland, Kansas and Bruce (Melissa) Blas of Ozawkie, Kansas; three grandchildren; mother, Veda of Oberlin, Kansas; brothers, David Wood of Stroud, Oklahoma, Merlin Wood of Fort Pierce, Florida and Dennis Wood of Norcatur, Kansas: two sisters, Carol (John) Moye of Oberlin, Kansas and Sandra (Larry) McNames of Palco, Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews.
