McCOOK, Nebraska -- Harley R. Morthole passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook on March 28, 2014, at the age of 91.

He was born on June 14, 1922, in Culbertson, Nebraska, to Earnest and Maude (Bree) Morthole. He grew up in Culbertson, graduating from Culbertson High School in 1940.

He took over the family farm three miles west of Culbertson upon the death of his father in December of 1939.

On Nov. 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Hilda Thiringer of Herndon, Kansas, they had one son, Riley. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson, McCook Lodge No. 135 AF&AM, Tehama Shrine, York Rite, St John's Commandery Knights Templar and Eureka Chapter No. 86 Order of Eastern Star, all of McCook, Ne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Hilda, and a brother, Gordon Morthole of Fort Collins, Colorado.

He is survived by his son, Riley and wife, Karen of Culbertson; grandchildren, Angie and husband, Shane Godtel of Hickman, Nebraska, Ryan and wife, Kira of Frederick, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Jakob and Aaron Godtel and Rhiannon Morthole; and sisters-in-law, Joan Morthole of Fort Collins, Colorado and Polly Thiringer of Wray, Colorado.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Pastor John Lewis officiating with inurnment at Culbertson Cemetery. Masonic honors will be given at the church.
