McCOOK, Nebraska -- Luella Nadine (Hayes) Krizek, age 82, passed away March 20, 2014 at Highland Park Assisted Living Center in McCook, Nebraska, after a courageous battle with cancer. Luella was born December 25, 1931 in rural Decatur County Kansas to Clarence Albert (Jack) and Verda (Lattimer) Hayes, she was second of five children. Luella married Murlin Lloyd Krizek October 8, 1950 in Rexford, Kansas, to this union three children were born.

Luella grew up in rural Decatur County, Kansas and attended high school in Oberlin, Kansas, graduating in 1949. The couple moved to McCook, Nebraska in 1951. She worked at home during the early years when the children were growing up. Luella worked as a secretary at Central Elementary School for 32 years. In the summer she kept busy operating the concession stands at the Jaycee and Felling Fields. After retirement Luella kept busy with her hobbies of sewing, quilt making, cooking, baking, volunteering at the blood mobile, a member of Ravenswood Road Club, member of First Congregational Church, planning and coordinating family reunions and loving her great-grand- children. She kept family close to her heart. She was the happiest when she was attending family activities or preparing a meal for family and friends.

Survivors include husband Murlin, daughter and husband Peggy and Lyle Smalley of McCook, Nebraska and son and wife Neal and Lee (Bundy) of Lincoln, Nebraska. Grand-children Scott and wife Kayla Smalley of McCook, Nebraska, Kala Smalley and Riley Krizek both of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tanner Krizek of Hebron, Nebraska. Great-grand children Hailey and Hayden Smalley of McCook, Nebraska. Sister Berneda Zoberst of Colby, Kansas, brother Chester and wife Nina Hayes of Grinnell, Kansas brother Richard and wife Janice Hayes of Atwood, Kansas and sister Carolyn Sue Hayes of Colby, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Proceeded in death by parents and son Steve.

Memorials are suggested in Her Name.

Her memory will live on through her love of quilting as she made a quilt for each grand-child, as well as many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook, with family greeting on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the McCook Christian Church, 507 West B Street, McCook, Nebraska, on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:30 am. with Pastor Clark Bates, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oberlin Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
